Prior to moving into creative writing full-time, Matt worked as a journalist and CEO of a small foreign affairs policy INGO-NPO in Washington, D.C., where he specialized in preventing and responding to early-stage international conflict. He used that work as inspiration for his political fantasy books in 2010-2016.
Matthew completed his undergraduate in World History and his graduate degree in International Crisis Communications. His dissertation was on the subject of communicative moral epistemology and the sociology of ethics during times of war.

Matt has been a non-profit executive, a journalist, a federal crisis responder, a foreign affairs writer, a terrible waiter, a very fun bartender, a rock climbing instructor, and a hostel-surfing nomad. Today he makes money by taking editing jobs, and then blows it all on publishing his own books.
